Saved by the Stray Cats

Room 103. It's a 20 square meter space at the basement of an old five-story building somewhere downtown of Cebu. It is where I live. It's where I find refuge from the dangers of COVID19.

Lingkod Cebu Celebrates 27th Anniversary

No pandemic can stop Lingkod Cebu from celebrating God's faithfulness as the branch welcomes its 27th year anniversary.

This anniversary is certainly one for the record as members will have to celebrate this year's anniversary it virtually due to the COVID19 pandemic, which has forced a "new normal" way of socializing.

Still, even when physical greetings may not be done anymore, no pandemic can stop us from giving thanks to the 27 years of providence, grace and faithfulness that the Lord has showered upon the community. God has equipped us with the technologies available today for such a time as this.

With that, Lingkod Cebu is proud to share what we have been doing during the first half of 2020 (including our transition to virtual gatherings) with this year's Enkindle Anniversary Issue.

Love and Valentine's Day

'Tis the season to be jolly, Falalalalalalalala.

That might sound like a Christmas song but it sure does apply to the celebration the whole world is commemorating. Valentine's Day.

The Sound of the Rain

Have you heard the sound of the rain? I mean, really listen to it?

Lingkod Cebu's IPT Team poses for a photo in the altar of St. Rita Chapel, Tabor Hills, Talamban.
I am one of those people who love the rain. I remembered when I was a child, I usually badger my parents to let me out every time it rains. The splash I make when I jump, the rain on my face and the laughter shared with my friends and siblings, are experiences worth loving.

Why Tithe?

What is a tithe? It comes from thAnglo-Saxon word teotha, meaning a tenth. Generally, it has been defined as the "tenth part of the increase arising from the profits of land and stock, allotted to the clergy for their support or devoted to religious or charitable uses". However, there have been tithes long before there were "clergy" in the Christian sense. So a more biblical definition is "the tenth part of all fruits and profits justly acquired, owed to God in recognition of his supreme dominion over man, and to be paid to the ministers of the church".

KBYE

The alphabet’s letter “K” must be really special, people are just so in love with it.  Take my mom as an example, I send her texts randomly whenever I feel like it, could be the cheesy “Ma, I love you”, the overly used “I miss you ma, wa nako’y kwarta”,  or the random-nonsensical-attention-grabber “Ma, gwapo ko. kbye”. It’s funny how I usually get the same reply, “K” just “K”, I even told her one time “Ma, there are 25 other letters in the alphabet” but of no surprise, I still got the ever loved “K”. I, later on, got used to it. I’m no Einstein but if ever my mom asks me to create her an Instagram account, I’ll surely place on her bio “Consistency is the K”.

Hilarious, but I wish life was as smooth and easy as the aforementioned conversation. I wish for all my questions to be answered promptly, and I wish for them to end “okay” consistently. But who am I kidding? Life’s not black and white; it’s a mad Jackson Pollock painting, abstract and colorful. Our questions are not always answered the way we always want it to be, may it be how, where, or when.

Embracing Single Life

Being a single professional is a state of life one should cherish. Indeed, This statement was affirmed with the single series hosted by ALNP last May 20 & 27 and June 3, 2017. The series was divided into three episodes (one for each Saturday) representing the three different aspects, a single professional encounters. And here’s how we, single professionals, should embrace this valuable part of our lives.

KNOWING OUR LIFE AND OUR MISSION

Lingkod-Cebu NLTC delegates pose for a photo.
Joining the 7–day National Lingkod Training Conference 2017 last October 23-29, 2017 at Chali Beach Resort, Cagayan de Oro was a life-changing experience. This year’s theme was “Our Life, Our Mission”, which was inspired by Ephesians 4:1 “I urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling.”
